Tourism information about the Madison area

Located in south central Wisconsin, Madison is the home of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is the state capitol. Considered one of the Midwest’s most vibrant communities with a reputation for scenic beauty and great recreational opportunities, it is frequently listed as one of the best places to live in the nation.

 

Taxi service

If you are flying into Madison, it may not be necessary to rent a car. The airport is six miles from campus and taxi service is available campus and downtown for about $20.

Driving to the Pyle Center from Dane County Regional Airport

  1. Exit the airport on International Lane and follow it to Packers Avenue.
  2. Turn left on Packers Avenue.
  3. As Packers Avenue heads toward campus, it curves and becomes E. Johnson St. and then becomes Gorham St.
  4. Turn right onto Wisconsin Ave.
  5. Turn left onto Langdon St.
  6. At N. Lake St., look for the Pyle Center on the northwest corner.

Traveling by bus

  • Badger Bus (877-292-8259) offers daily routes between Madison and Minneapolis (2 locations) as well as several Wisconsin cities including Milwaukee (several locations including General Mitchell International Airport)
  • The Van Galder Bus Company (800-747-0994) provides daily service between the Madison and Chicago (O’Hare Airport, Midway Airport and the Amtrak station downtown).
  • Megabus provides service to 1 or 2 locations each in Milwaukee, Chicago, Minneapolis and St. Paul, not including any of the airports.

Traveling by car to The Pyle Center

  • from Minneapolis or La Crosse (via I-90/94)
    Exit I-90/94 at Hwy 151 South. You will head toward the State Capitol. Follow Hwy 151 South (E. Washington Ave.) about 5 miles. One block before the Capitol, turn right onto N. Webster St. Follow this street about 3 blocks. Along the way, it makes a left turn and becomes W. Dayton St. From W. Dayton St., turn right onto Wisconsin Ave. Go 4 blocks and turn left onto Langdon St. When you reach N. Lake St., look for the Pyle Center on the northwest corner.   • from Milwaukee (via I-94)
    As I-94 approaches Madison, follow the signs for Hwy 30 into the city. Exit at Hwy 151 South (E. Washington Ave.). You will head toward the State Capitol. Follow E. Washington Ave. about 3 miles. One block before the Capitol, turn right onto N. Webster St. Follow this street about 3 blocks. Along the way, it makes a left turn and becomes W. Dayton St. From W. Dayton St., turn right onto Wisconsin Ave. Go 4 blocks and turn left onto Langdon St. When you reach N. Lake St., look for the Pyle Center on the northwest corner.   • from Chicago (via I-90)
    As I-90 approaches Madison, exit onto Hwy 12/18 West. Follow Hwy 12/18 West (a.k.a. the Beltline Hwy) for about 6 miles. Take the S. Park St. exit (Hwy 151 north). Turn right onto S.   • from Dubuque (via Hwy 151)
    Take Hwy 151 north to Madison. At Dodgeville WI, Hwy 18 joins Hwy 151. In Madison, turn right onto Hwy 12/18 East (a.k.a. the Beltline Hwy). Exit onto Fish Hatchery Rd. heading north (watch the signs carefully). Follow Fish Hatchery Rd. north until it reaches S. Park St. Turn left onto S. Park St. to head toward the UW-Madison campus.   • from Green Bay/Fox Valley (via Hwy 151)
    Take Hwy 151 South (becomes E. Washington Ave.). You will head toward the State Capitol. Follow Hwy 151 South (E. Washington Ave.) about 5 miles. One block before the Capitol, turn right onto N. Webster St. Follow this street about 3 blocks. Along the way, it makes a left turn and becomes W. Dayton St. From W.
